/The latest Ranking on Dashboard metrics data appears below, and now shows that the strongest rank correlations with ladder positions are currently associated with:
Percentage of Quarters Won (+0.88)
The MoS Win Production Function (+0.81)
Scoring Shots Conceded (+0.79)
Opponent Scoring: Goals (+0.76)
Opponent Scoring: Points (+0.75)
Scoring Shots Generated (+0.74)
Own Scoring: Goals (+0.73)
Own Scoring: Points (+0.71)
Interestingly, perfomances in any of the four quarters does not appear on this list. Also interesting is the fact that the teams in 4th and 5th on Win Production Function Expected Wins are both out of Finals contention.
The weakest rank correlations with ladder position are associated with:
Own Scoring Shot Conversion (+0.2)
Opponent Scoring Shot Conversion (+0.39)
Q4 Performances (+0.47)
Own Scoring Shot Conversion and. to a lesser extent, Opponent Scoring Shot Conversion remain largely irrelevant to success in the competition, especially if you look only at the Top 8 teams on the ladder.

Carlton, Melbourne and Western Bulldogs are the only teams to have outscored their opponents in all four quarters taken separately.
Gold Coast, Hawthorn, North Melbourne and West Coast are the only teams to have been outscored by their opponents in all four quarters taken separately
St Kilda have registered substantially fewer scoring shots than their opponents and have registered only an 83 percentage in Q2s
Collingwood’sand GWS’ opponents have converted at only 42% in Q4s this season
By way of contrast, Brisbane Lions’ opponents have coverted at 64% and Melbourne’s at 60% in Q3s. Port Adelaide’s opponents have also converted at 60% in Q1s and Q4s.
Conversely, Collingwood have converted at 61% in Q4s and 60% in Q2’s, Fremantle at 61% in Q3’s, and St Kilda at 61% in Q1s.
Geelong have scored 30% of their points in Q1s, and Brisbane Lions 30% in Q3s, whilst Fremantle have scored only 20% of their points in Q1s. Also, Brisbane Lions have conceded only 19% of their points in Q2’s and Carlton also only 19% in the same quarter.
