Winning Rates in Past 50 Games and Team Rating

Here we track a moving average - the winning rate of every team over their 50 most recent games, finals and home and away, spanning the period from 2000 (going back as far as needed to obtain 50 games) to the end of 2024. In calculating a team's winning rate, draws count as half wins. Each team's dot is coloured based on its Combined MoSHBODS Rating at the time.

Own and Opponent Conversion Rate, and Own Winning Rate in Past 50 Games

Here we track each team's moving average conversion rate, winning rate, and the conversion rate of its opponents across the 50 most-recent games. We start the analysis in Round 1 of 2000.

Teams with good conversion metrics inhabit the space in the top left of the chart where their own conversion rate is high and that of their collective opponents low.

It's interesting to note how weak, generally, is the relationship between favourable conversion rate metrics and average winning rates (which are encoded in the colour of a team's label at a point in time).

... and here we do the same thing for every team, all-time.

Note that we assume Sydney is the continuation of South Melbourne, the Western Bulldogs the continuation of Footscray, the Brisbane Lions the continuation of Fitzroy, and that the Kangaroos and North Melbourne are the same team.
