The latest Ranking on Dashboard metrics data appears below, and now shows that the strongest rank correlations with ladder positions are currently associated with:
Percentage of Quarters Won (+0.85)
The MoS Win Production Function (+0.84)
Scoring Shots Conceded (+0.79)
Opponent Scoring: Goals (+0.77)
Opponent Scoring: Points (+0.75)
The weakest rank correlations with ladder position are associated with:
Own Scoring Shot Conversion (+0.25)
Opponent Scoring Shot Conversion (+0.39)
Own Scoring Shot Conversion and. to a lesser extent, Opponent Scoring Shot Conversion remain largely irrelevant to success in the competition, especially if you look only at the Top 8 teams on the ladder.

Carlton and Melbourne remain the only teams to have outscored their opponents in all four quarters taken separately.
Gold Coast, Hawthorn, North Melbourne and West Coast are the only teams to have been outscored by their opponents in all four quarters taken separately
St Kilda have registered substantially fewer scoring shots than their opponents and have registered only an 82 percentage in Q2s. Also, despite sitting 6th on the ladder, they’ve lost as many quarters as they’ve won.
Collingwood’s opponents have converted at only 40% in Q4s this season
By way of contrast, Brisbane Lions’ opponents have coverted at 63% and Melbourne’s at 61% in Q3s
Geelong have scored 30% of their points in Q1s, and Fremantle only 19%. Brisbane Lions have conceded only 19% of their points in Q2’s and Carlton just 20% in the same quarter, whereas Collingwood have conceded 30% of their points in Q3s
