MatterOfStats 2023 : Team Dashboard for Round 13
The latest Ranking on Dashboard metrics data appears below, and, again, uses the Match Ratio metric to adjust for the fact that not all teams have yet had their bye.
The strongest rank correlations with those ladder positions are currently associated with:
Percentage of Quarters Won (+0.96)
The MoS Win Production Function (+0.9)
Q1 Performances (+0.85)
Scoring Shots Conceded (+0.77)
Own Scoring: Points (+0.76)
Q4 Performances (+0.76)
Own Scoring: Goals (+0.75)
Opponent Scoring: Points (+0.73)
Scoring Shots Generated (+0.73)
The weakest rank correlations with ladder position are associated with:
Opponent Scoring Shot Conversion (+0.3)
Q2 Performances (+0.47)
Next, we have the full Team Dashboard below, which includes a number of new metrics in the Quarter Performance section (now sectons) this week:
The rightmost columns in the first block now contain a quarter-by-quarter breakdown of each team’s net scoring shot production relative to its opponents’. So, for example, we see that Adelaide has, on average, generated 2.3 more scoring shots than its opponents have in Q1s
The two leftmost column blocks in the new Quarter By Quarter Performance II panel provide information about the percentage of points that each team has registered (first block) or conceded (second block) in each quarter. We see that Adealide, for example, has registered 30% of its total points in Q1s and conceded 22% of its total points in Q1s
The two rightmost column blocks in the new Quarter By Quarter Performance II panel provide information about the Own and Opponent Conversion rates by quarter (ie goals as a proportion of goals plus behinds). We see there, for example, that Adelaide has converted at 56% in Q1s while its opponents have converted at 49%.
Please let me know what you think about these extended metrics, and whether you prefer this new Dashboard or the traditional one.
