2022 - Team Ratings After Round 2
Some more reshuffling this week, for MoSSBODS mostly mid-table, but for MoSHBODS more comprehensively.
Nonetheless, Melbourne retains top spot and Geelong 2nd under both Systems
Overall, eight teams were re-ranked by MoSSBODS, and 13 by MoSHBODS, seven by multiple spots on MoSSBODS, and seven by multiple spots on MoSHBODS. Hawthorn was a big climber on both Systems, as was Collingwood to a lesser extent, whilst Port Adelaide, Fremantle, and GWS all fell multiple spots under both Systems.
The correlation between MoSSBODS and MoSHBODS Combined Ratings now stands at +0.9779, as shown in the chart below.
On the Component Ratings, on offence we find MoSSBODS and MoSHBODS now with Top 3s of Dees, Cats, and Swans, while on defence we find MoSSBODS with a Top 3 of Dees, Cats, and Swans, and MoSHBODS with a Top 3 of Dees, Cats, and Hawks.
On MoSSBODS, 5 teams are now rated positively on offence and defence (no change), 5 are rated negatively on both (down 1), 2 are rated positively on offence but negatively on defence (no change), and 6 are rated negatively on offence but positively on defence (up 1). The correlation between the teams’ MoSSBODS offensive and defensive Ratings now stands at +0.713, as depicted below.
And, finally, to MARS, which re-ranked 11 teams this week, though leaving Melbourne in first place ahead of Brisbane Lions, and then Geelong.
Five teams moved by more than a single spot, the biggest movers being Hawthorn, who rose five places, and GWS, who fell four..
Eight teams are now rated as better-than-average by MARS, with five more Rated 995 or higher.
The Rating gap between first and last currently stands at just over 37 Rating Points, which is down a couple of Points compared to last week, and down over six Points compared to the same time last season when Richmond’s 1020.9 topped the table, and North Melbourne’s 977.5 tailed it.
Looking across the rankings of all three Systems and ordering the teams based on the current competition ladder, we find relatively large differences for a number of teams, which is very much to be expected at this point in the season. The largest of those differences are for Western Bulldogs, Port Adelaide, Collingwood, North Melbourne, Hawthorn, and Gold Coast.
MARS, as ever, provides the most outlying rankings of the three Systems, it having the outright most-extreme ranking for 13 of the teams.
By comparison, MoSSBODS and MoSHBODS have the outright most-extreme ranking for just six teams each..
Lastly, if we consider the range of rankings that the three Systems have attached to each team, we find that Richmond (7 spots) has the widest range of rankings, just ahead of Port Adelaide (6 spots) while 10 teams have rankings than differ by no more than 2 spots, including Collingwood and Melbourne, for which all three Systems have the same ranking.
