MatterOfStats 2019 : Team Dashboard for Round 14
The latest table of Rankings on Dashboard Metrics appears below.
One interesting feature it reveals is that the teams in the Top 8 on the competition ladder are now also the Top 8 teams as measured by Expected Wins according to the MoS Win Production Function, albeit in a different order.
More broadly, if we look at the Top 8 on the ladder, we get:
6 of the top 8 teams on Scoring Shots Registered per game
6 of the top 8 teams on Scoring Shots Conceded per game
5 of the top 8 teams on Own Scoring Shot Conversion
5 of the top 8 teams on Opponent Scoring Shot Conversion
7 of the top 8 teams on Own Goal Scoring
7 of the top 8 teams on Own Points Scoring
6 of the top 8 teams on Opponent Goal Scoring
7 of the top 8 teams on Opponent Points Scoring
4 of the top 8 teams on Q1 Performances
5 of the top 8 teams on Q2 Performances
5 of the top 8 teams on Q3 Performances
7 of the top 8 teams on Q4 Performances
7 of the top 8 teams on % Quarters Won
These counts are consistent with the rank correlations shown at the foot of the table.
The full Team Dashboard appears below and reveals, amongst other things:
Collingwood’s dominance of 1st and 4th Quarters
Geelong’s consistency across all four quarters (they’ve lost only 15 quarters all season) and the massive difference between their own and their opponents’ conversion rates (59.7% v 44.5%)
Port Adelaide’s dominance only in 2nd Quarters
West Coast’s middling performance across all four quarters
The relatively fast starts of Gold Coast (they’ve scored almost one-third of their total points in 1st Quarters alone)
The large difference between Melbourne’s and their opponents’ conversion rates (48.9% v 61.5%)
